For Embroidery Club this month we will be making an "All in the Hoop" Cell Phone Carrier.
Here's Jeri, modeling a couple of views to show why this is the Perfect Cross Body Cell Phone Carrier! You won't want to miss this project!


Nice roomy pocket with a flap for all sizes of phones! The back side features a zippered pocket for safe keeping and a pocket for identification, business cards, etc.

Sewing Machine and power cord
Embroidery Unit

 Foot Pedal

USB Stick with designs loaded

Hoop - 6" X 10” or 200mm x 360mm

Sharp dressmaker shears for trimming project at end

Rotary Cutter and ruler

Embroidery Tape or Paper Medical Tape

Point Turner for pushing out corners of bag

Hand Needle or Stitch Witchery to close the lining of the bag

Stabilizer for hoop - Mesh Cutaway - This bag is done in 3 separate hoopings.  Please bring enough for all 3 hoopings.

Thread  - Polyester Embroidery Thread.  You may choose a matching or contrasting thread color.  Do not use Rayon embroidery thread on this project! 

Bobbin - Please wind 1 - 2 bobbins with thread to match the top thread.

Fabric for bag - This assumes that you are making your own strap:

Main fabric:  7/8 yd will make  outside of 2 bags if used for all pieces except vinyl and lining

Flannel:  7/8 yd - Color does not matter, unless the main outside fabric is light in color.  This is used in place of batting to prevent bulk, and give more stability to the strap and main body of the bag.

Lining: 1 fat quarter is enough for the lining for 2 bags

Pellon SF 101 or similar interfacing - 1/2 yd.  Please cut interfacing for Fabrics A, B, C, D, F, H, J & K 1/2” smaller than the fabric measurements.  

Clear Vinyl:  6.5” x 4” piece

Double Fold Bias Tape - 6.5” for top of clear vinyl.  You can make your own from the main body or contrasting fabric.

Zipper - #5 Nylon at least 8” long 

D Rings - (2) 1/2” 

Snaps - (3) Size 20, T5 

Optional - Tri Glide Slide buckle - 1/2” - 5/8”.  This will allow you to adjust the length of your strap if you should need to use the bag as a name badge for a quilt show or other venue where name badges are necessary.

       - Swivel Hook with D rings - (2)  1/2”. You may substitute 2 of the snaps for these. If you decide to use a premade strap, as is suggested as an alternative to making your own strap, you will need the D ring size to fit the width of your strap.

Preparation for class:  

1. Please have all fabrics cut according to the Fabric Cutting Chart in the DBJJ instructions.   Please cut tab and strap fabrics on Length of Grain. THERE IS ONE CORRECTION to the cutting chart - The 2 tabs should be cut 2” x 5”, NOT 1.5” x 5”.  

2. It would also be helpful to have all SF101 fused to the indicated fabric pieces prior to class.

3. Please print the color charts for the 3 hoopings.
